This is my first diary entry on Daily Kos and I'm choosing to entitle it (and me) Mister Ground Zero. Why? Because I live in the lowest part of Alabama and feel like I'm at Ground Zero for change in this country. This is a place where you can still get killed just for making it known that you're involved in the Democratic party. I'm not kidding. You have to be very careful what you say and who you say it to lest you end up in some extremely uncomfortable situations.
That said, I'm in the process of raising funds to give a shot in the arm to our Democratic candidate for Congress (Alabama, District 1), Burton Leflore, who would replace Jo Bonner. As many of you probably know, Bonner has left the House to take a job at the University of Alabama and so a special election will be held on December 17th to determine who will take his place. This seat has historically been held by a Republican. The last time a Democrat held it, JFK was president.
We need funds badly and if you'd like to contribute to Burton's campaign, here's a link:

Additionally, I'm going to be organizing a benefit concert for him which will include some nationally known musical artists. I'll be announcing this in greater detail soon.
